Fog Swept Islands — Faroe Islands Culture Days
This spring, ASF presents “Fog Swept Islands: Faroe Islands Culture Days,” a major celebration of the North Atlantic archipelago! This spring, Scandinavia House will be exploring the contemporary Faroese arts through a series of programs including panels on current issues, literary and design talks, in-person and virtual film screenings, and textile and knitting events, as well as the exhibition "Fog Swept Cargo: Art From the Faroe Islands" in the Scandinavia House Galleries.
Events will begin April 13 with the opening day of "Fog Swept Cargo," featuring an artist panel, as well as a screening and film talk with the directors and producers of "Heartist," a documentary exploring the life and work of Faroese artist Sigrun Gunnarsdóttir.
Other events in April will include a discussion on “The Faroe Islands & The Arctification of the North,” a lecture with Bergur Djurhuus Hansen; “Literature From the Faroe Islands,” featuring readings from authors and translators; a Faroese Design, Wool & Knitting screening and panel moderated by Isabella Rossellini; knitting workshops led by Navia head knitter Sára Mrdalo; and knitwear showcases and drop-ins.
The celebration will continue with “Fog Swept Cinema,” virtual film screenings from April 19-May 5 of feature and short films including "Skál," "111 Good Days," and "Dreams by the Sea"; exhibition gallery tours, curator talks, and related adult art workshops with Melkorka Helgadottir; and more.
