Fête de la Francophonie
The festival is led by Artistic and Administrative Director Miguel Trelles and was founded by Carole Alexis, Martinican French-American choreographer, resident artist at Teatro LATEA, and founder of Ballet des Amériques, who has long worked to promote cultural exchange and to highlight the Caribbean, French culture, the African diaspora, and the Francophone world in New York. The program opens on Thursday, March 19, at 6:00 PM with a welcome reception and cocktail, followed by a 7:00 PM concert by the Flute Choir of New York, directed by Nicolas Duchamp, offering audiences an exceptional musical evening.
On Friday, March 20, the festival will spotlight Francophone cinema with a screening of the film ELZA, directed by Guadeloupean filmmaker Mariette Monpierre, followed by a discussion. The evening continues with a dance performance by Ballet des Amériques, choreographed by Carole Alexis, and concludes with a festive After Party, inviting artists and audiences to celebrate together.
Sunday, March 22, features family-friendly programming with "Alors on danse", a Francophone movement class for children ages 4 and up that encourages playful and creative exploration of dance. The day continues with a theatrical presentation of Pelléas et Mélisande by Nicolas Cauchy, followed by a special event from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM, and concludes with a clôture reception.
In parallel with the performances, the festival will also host art exhibitions from March 19 to 22, showcasing the creativity of both established and young artists:
• Dominique De Cock – Artist Exhibition
•French American Academy – Art Exhibition
•Smith Street Maternelle – Les Petits Artistes – Children’s Art Exhibition With this inaugural edition, the organizers aim to establish an annual festival dedicated to Francophone culture in New York, creating a lasting space for cultural exchange, artistic creation, and dialogue between Francophone communities and international audiences.
The festival is supported by CMT – Comité Martiniquais du Tourisme, Ballet des Amériques , and Teatro LATEA, strengthening its cultural impact and visibility for New York and international audiences.
