Gwen Laster's Is My Black Still Beautiful
Is My Black Still Beautiful is a multimedia performance created by violinist Gwen Laster, exploring colorism through the lens of a young black girl during post civil rights in Detroit. This hero's journey is experienced through music, storytelling, projected visuals and dance. It reflects the absurdities and complexities by society's larger ruling class through conditioning of slavery and colonialism.
