These heroes of dance have inspired movements, challenged the status quo, and educated the masses with their dynamic movement styles, creative ingenuity, and courage. This June at Kings Theater, their legacy lives on through Purelements' own C.O.A.R. students, as they take to the stage to present a myriad of beautifully crafted works created in honor of these Legends.

See and step aboard buses from our vintage fleet, representing more than 80 years of New York City surface transit history. Enjoy special activities and photo ops, meet some of the bus drivers who help keep our city moving, and take in the view of the Manhattan skyline from Bridge Plaza underneath the Brooklyn Bridge at 11 Water Street! Join artist Sally Saul and associate curator Vivian Chui for a walkthrough of Blue Hills, Yellow Tree, an exhibition of works spanning three decades of Saul's practice. The artist will share the experiences and ideas which inspired the sculptures and works on paper, as well as the influences that continue to inform her creative output today. Sally Saul (b. 1946, Albany, NY) earned a BA from the University of Colorado in Boulder, CO and an MA in American Literature from San Francisco State University, San Francisco, CA. Practicing as a sculptor for over thirty years, Saul has participated in exhibitions at the Art Museum of West Virginia, Morgantown, WV; the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Ridgefield, CT; Rachel Uffner Gallery, New York, NY; White Columns, New York, NY; the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild, Woodstock, NY; Lumber Room, Portland, OR; the Columbus Cultural Arts Center, Columbus, OH; and the Lawndale Art Center, Houston, TX; among many others. In 2018, the artist, with Peter Saul, co-curated the exhibition Out of Control at Venus Over Manhattan, New York, NY. Saul lives and works in Germantown, New York.

When it comes to Congolese popular music, Nkumu Katalay can do it all—he's a dancer, singer, drummer, percussionist, guitarist, bassist, and bandleader. Born in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nkumu is a veteran of Lokassa Ya Mbongo's Soukous Stars, but has become a fixture in New York City, especially in Harlem. In addition to leading The Life-Long Project Band, Nkumu is a co-director of the Yam Session, a monthly collective Afro jam session, and teaches weekly high-energy Afro-Congolese dance classes. You are invited to Roulette's free Spring Neighborhood Open House on Tuesday, April 2, 2019. From 6pm – 8pm, we will be opening our doors to the public and inviting the community to visit Roulette. Have a drink, jam to beats by DJ Natural State of Dance, learn about our programming, and see why Roulette has become one of the most in demand venues in Brooklyn for weddings, not-for-profit, and commercial organizations, private celebrations, conferences, galas, and more! Featuring complimentary food with the return of the legendary Pies'n'Thighs and Naturally Delicious, a chance to relive the culinary heaven of our 40th Gala with Night Kitchen Catering, and sweet dreams from our neighborhood chocolate supplier Nunu Chocolates; decor by the top-tier team of Big Dawg Party Rentals; and free photobooth mementos provided by MVS Studio/ Fobo.
