Join Michelle Shocked on a wild adventure with her Les Chocolats, among the rumba traditions deeply embedded in Cuba, and emerged with a pitch-perfect synthesis of her bete noir, Copyfight for the debut of her forthcoming Musical Chairs: A Comparsa for Artist Rights.

Intrepid does not begin to describe it. Michelle Shocked has returned from a wild adventure among the rumba traditions deeply embedded in Cuba, and emerged with a pitch-perfect synthesis of her bete noir, Copyfight (think Moby Dick, but instead of a giant whale, Google and Amazon) and rumba idioms nurtured in the private solars and public calles of Cuba. We’re talking guaguanco, yambu, mozambique, son, changui, guaracha and yes, even a little boogaloo. Recall, please, the romance of Ry Cooder’s Buena Vista Social Club drifting across your latte at Starbuck’s in the 90’s. Or Paul Simon’s Graceland coalescing international resistance against South African apartheid in the late 80’s.

Now open your minds and hearts, come listen to Michelle share her new studio effort, “Musical Chairs: A Comparsa for Artist Rights,” and hear her describe, first-hand, the fast-growing underground movement for sustainability for independent artists. The release won’t be available for another year, but she’s eager to share the work with select friends who might appreciate the audacity of her studio triumph. Better yet, join the comparsa! Come dressed in an outfit of red & black, green & black, green & yellow, red & white, blue & white, or gold, purple or white.
