Inclusive Sundays for Children with a Physical Disability
This weekly drop-off course encourages young people to collaborate and get creative in both Fine Arts and Media Arts. Students are given the space to be independent of their parents, and activities are adapted to accommodate the specific abilities of each child. Students will explore the practice of combining various distinct visual art media, such as paper, paint, textiles, and sculpture, with new technology in our media labs such as animation, sound art, and photography. The class will also discover and discuss the work and techniques of notable mixed media artists. Students host exhibitions and visit other NYC cultural spaces on field trips. CMA's Inclusive Sunday Classes provide a free opportunity for children with physical disabilities and their family and friends. CMA Teaching Artists are supported by Evaluators licensed in Occupational Therapy. This program is based on a class-like model in which the Teaching Artists and specialists work to facilitate the group experience, with a keen eye towards the special needs of the participants. At the heart of all of our inclusive programs is socialization, benefiting all participants.
