Black Shutter Podcast—Andre Wagner x Late Night ICP

Visit the ICP library as Andre Wagner joins host Idris Talib Solomon for a live taping of Black Shutter Podcast during Late Night ICP. Listen to Andre discuss documenting his community and photographing on the street in Brooklyn and beyond, as well as his recent pop-up subway portrait activation with ICP at Lower East Side's Essex Street station, and his new exhibition, New City, Old Blues, on view at the Gordon Parks Foundation.

The Black Shutter Podcast is a series of conversations with Black photographers filmmakers, editors, and creative business folks. You will hear about their work, their challenges, and their inspirations revolving around photography.

Idris Talib Solomon is an award-winning photojournalist and art director. Mr. Solomon has a versatile background in graphic design, photography, video, and art direction. He has several years of experience in advertising and is currently on contract at HBO as an art director.
He has photographed for The New York Times, Amazon Prime TV, HBO, ESPN, Reuters and The Drone Racing League.
He is the host and Creative Director of The Black Shutter Podcast.
Andre Wagner is a photographer and artist living and working in Brooklyn, New York. He explores and chronicles the poetic and lyrical nuances of daily life, using the city—particularly his own neighborhood and community—as his subjects. His work and practice fits into the lineage of street photography that investigates the American social landscape, often focusing his lens on themes of race, class, and cultural identity. Wagner has remained committed to photographic processes, developing his own black and white negatives and making silver gelatin prints in his personal darkroom.
Wagner’s photographs have been commissioned by The New Yorker, The New York Times, Esquire, W Magazine,The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Time, and Vogue, among other publications. For the movie Queen & Slim Wagner photographed the iconic key art and the campaigns leading images. His photographs have appeared in a number of solo exhibitions and group shows in Los Angeles, New York and North Carolina.
His first monograph, Here for the Ride, was published by Creative Future in 2017. He is currently editing a 10-year body of work titled New City, Old Blues.
