Explore Greenwich Village through a Jewish lens!
Did you know that the Jewish history of Greenwich Village goes back well over 200 years? As one of the most iconic neighborhoods in New York City, it is no surprise Greenwich Village is also one of its most historically and politically charged. From New York University and Washington Square Park, to its legendary music venues and personalities, the Village is as popular today as when Dylan, Springsteen, Hendrix, and Ginsberg roamed the streets looking for gigs.
Highlights:
Visit Congregation Darech Amuno, now housed in a 150 year old converted townhouse, which has existed in the Village since 1838 Stop at one of the oldest Jewish cemeteries in the country, hidden in plain sight on West 11th Street Learn about one of the first homes of Temple Emanu-El, which resided in a converted Baptist Church from 1854-1868 Discuss the great list of Jewish musicians, artists, and activists who lived in the Village over the years Join a Museum at Eldridge Street expert guide on Saturday, September 6th at 11:30am in the Village!
We will meet on 4th Avenue and East 12th Street (in front of Crunch Fitness). Tickets must be purchased in advance of arrival.
