Prince Street Gallery presents, From Her Hands work in continuance, the recent oil paintings of Robyn Whitney Fairclough. This is Fairclough’s fourth solo exhibition at Prince Street Gallery Gallery. Fairclough’s work has long been as much about the process of painting as the subjects she depicts. In this exhibition, created following a prolonged period of caring for her mother, she returns to the studio and to the figure after loss and grief. Though representational, her work continues to be driven by the orchestration of color, figure and overall structure of the painting. Each canvas becomes a world in which the drama of color, subject and spatial tension unfolds. Figures occupy spaces that feel intimate yet unsettled. The primary subject – her mother – is rendered without sentimentality, constructed through memory, perception, and paint. As in all of Fairclough’s work, the subjects arise from her lived world.
