Christopher Mcbrite - Minton's Playhouse
April 14, 2019 - Harlem

Admission may increase depending upon a given week's performance schedule. Superb Alto Saxophonist Christopher McBride has been slowly but steadily turning heads with his ubiquitous work as an invaluable sideman since the mid-aughts. Now Christopher is gaining respect amongst fans, critics and his peers as one of the most versatile musicians in the world. His 2012 debut album Quatuor de Force certainly establishes his ability to front a group and write his own soulful, melodically indelible tunes. Applauded for his ability to play in all musical situations, McBride has the ability to unleash a fiery attack and serrated tone, but on his recent album he explores a more measured, mellow sound heavily influenced by contemporary R&B—with a strong shot of Cannonball Adderley's post-bop sensuality–but his improvising is very rigorous and co

"If I can give someone goosebumps, if I can make all the fatigue, anxiety and stuffy reality of the day go away and take people to a place where you're experiencing a higher–level joy…that's an incredible thing to see. Sometimes when I turn around and I see that the entire audience is moving because they just can't help it, that's an incredible thing. I'm looking at people and they really look 'in the moment.' They're not concerned about what happened earlier or what is going to happen afterwards. That's a great place to be at. Whether that's achieved through melody rhythm, harmony, dissonance, counterpoint, that's secondary. That transcendental kind of thing is what matters." (Michael Leonhart, All About Jazz, 7.16.2018)

Iamchelseaiam Birthday Show at the Loft - 4/19 - City Winery
April 19, 2019 - 2nd floor New York

The smells of incense and Pine Sol along with the melodies of powerful R&B/Soul singers such as Anita Baker and Mary J Blige were a familiar weekend scene for iamchelseaiam growing up in Cincinnati, OH. Between the influences of her mother and the Baptist church it was hard to escape the music that created the soundtrack for her childhood, which led her to play several instruments. Currently, with a New York State of Mind and a Midwestern Spirit, Singer/Songwriter iamchelseaiam uses her guitar to deliver melodic riffs, taking audiences on a rhythmic journey. Inspired human connection, every-day conversations & relationships are what drives iamchelseaiam to create music. As a writer she's had the opportunity to write for The Voice contestant Kenny Araujo, actress Taryn Manning as well as several independent artists. She was recently mentored by Eric Robeson (Musiq Soulchild, Jill Scott, etc) through the ASCAP "The Collective" program. In addition she was apart of the ASCAP Song Accelerator program hosted by Alex Forbes and Valerie Ghent. Her current project "A Beautiful Mess" (released Spring 2018), is a new sound that is completely different from the singer/songwriter style of he... (read more)

16 & Over Relentless reliability is intrinsic to longevity in the music business—or any other business for that matter. No giving up is allowed. No promise can go unfulfilled. If people can depend on you, they'll believe in you and stick with you until death. Since forming in 1994, Grammy award-nominated hardcore and metal stalwarts Hatebreed have constantly crushed with every subsequent album. Their six full-length effort and first for Razor & Tie, The Divinity of Purpose, proudly upholds that tradition cast in almost two decades of blood, tears, and flames. It's everything fans have come to expect from the Connecticut-based quintet—Jamey Jasta [vocals], Chris Beattie [bass], Wayne Lozinak [guitar], Frank Novinec [guitar], and Matthew Byrne [drums]—and more.

Admission may increase depending upon a given week's performance schedule Superb Alto Saxophonist Christopher McBride has been slowly but steadily turning heads with his ubiquitous work as an invaluable sideman since the mid-aughts.

Larry Goldings/Peter Bernstein/Bill Stewart - Jazz Standard
Through April 21, 2019 - New York

In the 1950s and '60s, Jimmy Smith, Jack McDuff, Richard "Groove" Holmes, and Larry Young pioneered and popularized the jazz organ trio. For the past quarter–century, Larry Goldings, Peter Bernstein and Bill Stewart have taken that fundamental concept into fresh territory, recording eleven masterful albums under various members' names or as a collective unit. These rotating roles show the equality of each member's contribution to the whole and their individual stature as world–class bandleaders. Equally adept at roiling bebop intensity, gentle ballad expressions, and knotty fistfuls of funk, the group has been less active in the last few years, owing to the demands of their individual careers, so every new album and tour is cause for celebration. Ramshackle Serenade (Pirouet) is their first studio session in twelve years and a welcome return for what DownBeat calls "a killer organ trio barrage that's deep in the pocket." Larry Goldings – organ, piano Peter Bernstein – guitar Bill Stewart – drums

Terence Blanchard ft The E-Collective - Blue Note
Through April 21, 2019 - New York

Music and art have the power to change hearts and souls," expresses composer and trumpeter Terence Blanchard — a belief brought to life through the music of Blanchard and his E-Collective. This revolutionary ensemble thrives off the perfect mixture of Blanchard's genius and the innovations of four young musical pioneers: guitarist Charles Altura, pianist Fabian Almazan, bassist David "DJ" Ginyard Jr., and drummer Oscar Seaton. It was while recording the scores for Spike Lee's Inside Man and Kasi Lemmons' Talk to Me that Blanchard and Seaton first dreamt of a band that layered grooves teeming with funk, R&B, and blues colors. Years later, that dream came to fruition and formed the foundation for the E-Collective's signature sound.
