Palmieri's parents emigrated from Ponce, Puerto Rico to New York City in 1926. Born in Spanish Harlem and raised in the Bronx, Palmieri learned to play the piano at an early age, and at 13, he joined his uncle's orchestra, playing timbales. Palmieri's professional career as a pianist took off with various bands in the early 1950s, including Eddie Forrester's, Johnny Segui's, and the popular Tito Rodriguez Orchestra. In 1961, Palmieri formed his own band, La Perfecta, which featured an unconventional front line of trombones rather than the trumpets customary in Latin orchestras. This created an innovative sound that mixed American jazz into Afro-Caribbean rhythms, surprising critics and fans alike. Palmieri disbanded La Perfecta in 1968 to pursue different musical endeavors, though he would return to the band's music in the 2000s. Recogn... (read more)

August 23, 2019 - Brooklyn

This event is 21 and over Jeremy & The Harlequins n today's musical landscape inundated by cheap hooks and overproduced studio tricks, Jeremy & The Harlequins are here to keep the fire and spirit of rock'n'roll alive. That's something the New York five-piece have been doing since forming just a few short years ago, both with their debut album American Dreamer (2015) and its follow-up Into The Night (2016). They're continuing this approach with their third album in three years, entitled Remember This, which they started writing at home in New York, immediately after the recording of Into The Night. Kendra Morris Kendra Morris recalls singers who straddled soul and rock during the early '70s, such as Ruth Copeland and Chaka Khan, while her contemporaries include the likes of Mayer Hawthorne, Alice Russell, and Leela James. Morris's musical taste was developed through her parents' record collection, a library heavy on late-60s and early-70s soul and funk. During her childhood Morris's main companion was her karaoke machine, which she also used for the sake of recording.

Brent Birckhead - The Uptown Alchemist - Ginny's Supper Club
August 23, 2019 - New York

All Ages Birckhead is the full-length debut album that takes its name from Downbeat Award-winning saxophonist, educator, and Baltimore native Brent Birckhead. Birckhead's boundless musical aesthetic and respect for craft combine on an album that cements his trajectory as a rising leader in a storied lineage of maverick woodwind artists. An introduction to the man and his music, the eponymous release is named to reflect Birkhead's desire for his first formal offering to serve as a bold statement of purpose punctuated by his preferred mononym and comprised of deeply personal compositions. With it, he enforces a profound sense of duty to propagate a rich musical legacy and catalyzes a reclamation of personal identity through calculated efforts to redefine his family's given surname. First employed as a utilitarian mechanism to specify colonial ownership of his enslaved ancestors, the word Birckhead becomes a benchmark for dynamism that surpasses the conventions of subjugation and challenges standards of popular music by the advent of the album of the same name.

Best known as the guitarist and emcee for Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings, Binky has been frequenting the LunÀtico bandstand of late - this time with Binky Griptite Orchestra! Binky was born and raised in Milwaukee, and lived in Minneapolis for a bit before moving to NY. He took a break from music for a couple of years, but when he was ready to jump back in, he happened to meet Gabe Roth (co-founder of Daptone Records), and did a couple of sessions for a Lee Fields album. They started doing gigs, and the rest is history. As The Dap-Kings they started playing with Sharon Jones, and things got more serious. That path led to acclaimed albums and worldwide tours, all cut short when Sharon was diagnosed with cancer, which stole her from us all in 2016. They're still officially a band, but taking a bit of a break to mourn their sister Sharon, doing a few little things here and there, instrumental gigs and studio work.

August 24, 2019 - Bay Shore

Louis Prima Jr. and the Witnesses are bringing Prima music into the 21st century. Not content to sit on the legacy they so passionately protect, LPJ and the band are taking a page from his father's playbook, by wailing "Prima-Style" like it's 2014. Less concerned about reliving the past than about creating a future for it, Louis Prima Jr and the Witnesses bring new energy and a current attitude to the masses with The Wildest Show this side of the 1960's. Since their breakout performance at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival (aka Jazz Fest), #TeamPrima has performed everywhere from Seattle to Palermo, from small clubs to performing arts centers, from casino showrooms to music festivals, and from Access Hollywood Live to PBS. LPJ and the Band are currently touring in support of their second Warrior Records/Universal Music Distribution (warriorrecords.com) release, BLOW – a collection of original music (save for a couple of surprises) as eclectic and unique as each member of this powerhouse band. Eddie Palmieri - Blue Note
August 25, 2019 - New York

His playing skillfully fuses the rhythm of his Puerto Rican heritage with the complexity of his jazz influences: Thelonious Monk, Herbie Hancock, and McCoy Tyner, as well as his older brother Charlie Palmieri. Recogn... (read more)
