New Politics, Plain White Ts & the Mowglis the 3 Dimensional Tour - Warsaw
December 13, 2019 - Brooklyn

Plain White T'sSince emerging in 1997, the GRAMMY Award-nominated multiplatinum Chicago quintetTom Higgenson [vocals], Tim Lopez [lead guitar, vocals], Dave Tirio [rhythm guitar], Mike Retondo [bass], and DeMar Hamilton [drums]has amassed an enduring, engaging, and enigmatic catalog, spanning two gold-certified offerings All That We Needed (2005) and Every Second Counts (2006) and unshakable anthems such as the double-platinum 1,2,3,4 and platinum Rhythm of Love. Among the discography, Hey There Delilah went quadruple-platinum, topped the Billboard Hot 100, and earned a pair of 2008 GRAMMY Award nominations in the categories of Song of the Year and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. Along the way, the five-piece logged countless miles on the road in front of sold out crowds in nearly every corner of the globe. After a whirlwind tour cycle supporting 2015s American Nights, the guys hunkered down and began writing the ideas that would eventually comprise Parallel Universe, slated for an August 2018 release. The bands endlessly hummable signature melodies still shine at the center of this galaxy, but their Universe morphed into an otherworldly atmo... (read more)

Stalley - The Mercury Lounge
December 13, 2019 - New York

Age Limit: 21 and OverAfter earning major-label success with his debut album Ohio in 2014, former MMG artist, Stalley, has successfully emerged into an independent powerhouse with his hard-nosed work ethic and steely lyricism on the mic. Donna the Buffalo W/ the Lightkeepers - Westcott Theater
December 13, 2019 - Syracuse

a The Buffalo: "Donna The Buffalo is from central New York state, not Louisiana, but this widely loved quintet has woven that joyful, hip-shaking zydeco pulse into the DNA of its sound, and leaders Jeb Puryear and Tara Nevins have wrapped that core vibe with hopeful, mellow lyrics." --Music City Roots, Craig HavighurstDonna the Buffalo just passed the marker as their 25th year as a band and have proven to be a consistent purveyor of American music. What's the recipe? To be sure, it's infused with more spices than you'll find at a Cajun cookout by way of a southern-fried, rockin' country old-time jamboree. "For the dizzying array of styles and genres with which they work, Donna The Buffalo maintain a surprising level of consistency. The New York-based band has played around with folk, zydeco, and many other musical ideas over the course of their 25-year career, but they retain a sharp focus that has helped them create some truly lasting music," writes Elmore Magazine.

Hugh Pool Band - Bar Chord
December 13, 2019 - Brooklyn

Just when you thought you knew all about the Williamsburg rock scene, here comes someone to throw a wrench in the works. For the uninitiated, this is Mr. Hugh Pool who's been sliding and fingerpicking his National through his Ibanez Tube Screamer since the first time those clothes were in style. He has shared the stage with such luminaries as Patti Smith, Gov't Mule, Leslie West, Johnny Winter, Dave Edmunds, John Mayall, The Fabulous Thunderbirds and more. He has performed on the Emeril Lagassi Show, The Mitch Albom Show and Late Night With Conan O'Brien. His original songs have been used in network TV, movies, award-winning documenaries and an off Broadway play. When he's not playing, performing or writing you can find him twiddling the knobs on the big board at his Brooklyn studio. Excello Recording is where he's worked with talented folks like Debbie Harry, Kiki & Herb, Michael Brecker, Radio 4, Joseph Arthur, Larry Campbell, Tony Garnier, and, well, the list does go on.So you can see that he's no one trick pony. Hugh hails from the Rust Belt, which is where he draws inspiration for his backwoods amalgam of rock, country & blues. But living in New York for the last 20 years h... (read more)

Om and Emel Mathlouthi - Pioneer Works
December 14, 2019 - Brooklyn

There remains the singularity of purpose that is the core of all OM records, but no single reason can account for this comprehensive nature of their evolution. On their newest album the core primary sound of OM remains, yet everything reaches further and becomes more of itself. Whatever drone-doom camp that OM had previously been placed in has been decimated by the sheer imagination and expansive quality of this recording. For a band that has continually followed its own course, and stood alone in its sound and approach, ADVAITIC SONGS for certain, is the band's most focused, progressive document.

"This German artist brings a depth of intelligence, a sense of history, a political and social awareness, a knowing irony to her material few can match. She is the benchmark for singers." West Australian ReviewWhen Ute Lemper takes the stage, we are instantly transported to the fleeting moment of wild experimentation born of the short-lived progressive culture that bloomed in pre-war Germany. Songs by Weill, Brecht, Hollander, Spoliansky, and others will receive the sexy and acerbic interpretation that is Ms. Lemper's signature style.

Laura Stevenson - Monty Hall
December 15, 2019 - Jersey City

Laura Stevenson puts her incredible song-writing on display at Monty Hall in Jersey City on December 15th. Adult Mom opens in rare solo formIf gravity is strong enough, at the end of time our universe will collapse, pulling all of existence back down to infinitesimal size, like before the Big Bang. But if expansion outpaces gravity, eventually the universe will be cold and emptyall light, heat, and connection will be gone. That possibility is called The Big Freeze.Recorded in her childhood home during the dead of winter, The Big Freeze represents a pivotal step for New York songwriter Laura Stevenson. Despite her pedigree in the punk and indie rock scenes, and the occasional inclusion of a backing band (like on the sprightly, C86-inspired pop track Dermatillomania), for the first time on record Stevensons voice and guitar are in clear and highlighted focus. It is a natural aesthetic choice for the musician, who has often toured as a solo act and who pulls influence from the great American songbook, and a choice that plays to the core strength and organic beauty of her writing. And though it is easily the darkest and most emotionally-devastating album of Stevensons career... (read more)

Tyler Childers - Brooklyn Steel
December 15, 2019 - Brooklyn

Ages: 16 & OverLike many great Southern storytellers, singer-songwriter Tyler Childers has fallen in love with a place. The people, landmarks and legendary moments from his childhood home of Lawrence County, Kentucky, populate the 10 songs in his formidable debut, Purgatory, an album that's simultaneously modern and as ancient as the Appalachian Mountains in which events unfold. The album, co-produced by Grammy Award winners Sturgill Simpson and David Ferguson, is a semiautobiographical sketch of Childers' growth from wayward youth to happily married man, told in the tradition of a Southern gothic novel with a classic noir antihero who may just be irredeemable. Purgatory is a chiaroscuro painting with darkness framing light in high relief. There's catharsis and redemption. Sin and temptation. Murder and deceit. Demons and angels. Moonshine and cocaine. So much moonshine and cocaine. All played out on the large, colorful canvas of Eastern Kentucky.

The Simple Radicals - The Cutting Room
Through December 15, 2019 - New York

ust when some newer rock bands have set aside the serious six-string in exchange for atmospherics and synths, along comes a group fueled by electric guitars and cunning lyrics that both observe and re-imagine the current state of society. And they do all this while avoiding the self-righteousness that can sour the sound of message bands. The band captures what's currently going on in the world with an honest, poignant and straight-from-the-heart energy and retro-rock and roll sound with lyrics reflecting what society is facing today. The Simple Radicals are lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist and songwriter John Malkin and lead guitarist John Griffin. The band also includes drummer Griff Johnson and bass guitarist Mike Cangemi. The band's first release off their debut album, New Revolution is the hard-driving "Medicate," which reflects the overindulgence in and over-reliance on drugs in our society opiates, anti-depressants, and drugs designed purely to elate certainly not a topic unfamiliar to the music world. Living Colour lead guitarist, Vernon Reid collaborated with the band to deliver a blistering solo that captures the fiery madness of the epidemic. "Medicate" is currently p... (read more)
