Charlie Romo --- Great American Songbook - The Triad Theatre
June 28, 2019 - New York

Charlie Romo is a native New Yorker and grew up in a community and family with strong character which has reinforced in him a style that has served him well on stage. Inspired by his favorite interpreters of classic American popular songs (Bobby Darin, Frank Sinatra, Vic Damone, Ray Charles, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald, Dean Martin, Judy Garland, Sammy Davis Jr., Michael Bublé, etc.), Romo has developed an avid passion for, and a unique interpretation of recognizable standards of jazz and the Great American Songbook. His goal is to "carry the torch" by reviving the music and style of previous eras in a dynamic and refreshing way. Romo has made a name for himself in the jazz/cabaret circuit by working with top-notch musicians, and from his award-winning performances. He often performs in major cities around the country, including New York City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Orlando. Last December, Romo made his Lincoln Center debut.

A Southern Fairytale - Ty Autry - The Duplex Cabaret Theatre
June 28, 2019 - New York

A Southern Fairytale, written by and starring Broadway World award-winning actor Ty Autry and directed by David L. Carson, is coming to The Duplex straight off its international success in Dublin, Ireland at the International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival (IDGTF) where it was nominated for the Doric Wilson Award for Intercultural Dialogue for exposing the role of conversion therapy and evangelicalism in dehumanizing LGTBQ people. Based on true events, A Southern Fairytale artfully illuminates the challenges facing a young, gay Christian growing up in the Deep South. As we accompany the protagonist through multiple journeys into and out of the closet, the audience emotionally connects with the very real impacts of conversion therapy, excommunication, and a father who believes that a demon has possessed his son.

David Johansen & The Harry Smiths Reunion at The Loft - City Winery
June 29, 2019 - New York

Today, the words "blues" and "shouting" are, alas, inextricably linked, but what about the tradition of mellow blues crooners that extended through Charles Brown, Nat King Cole and, in their more romantic moments, Joe Williams and Ray Charles? "Buster Poindexter" (nee David Johansen) first attracted attention as a glam rock pioneer (in the New York Dolls, with whom he still tours) and then as an early MTV idol (with "Hot Hot Hot"). Yet with his big, deep, resonant voice, Buster Poindexter is most impressive as a crooner and occasional belter of ballads in the classic R&B tradition. His ongoing run affirms the point that however you know him, the artist known as Buster Poindexter, complete with his one-liners and longer comic monologues (not to mention his signature pompadour), is one of the most endearing and enduring entertainers currently trodding the boards in New York.
