The O, learning that Dälek made beats at his home studio offered to help him engineer his nascent tracks at his growing studio, Sweetwood Sound. Since a creative mind is a terrible thing to waste, Dälek later dropped out of Patterson, cashing in his college loan checks to pick up his first MPC 3000 -- turning what began as an experiment into one of the most inventive Hip Hop records the world will ever hear.

Tom Kenyon: The Thousand-Petaled Lotus - Symphony Space
September 14, 2019 - New York

In this one-day sound immersion we will explore the vast inner worlds of the Sahasrara (the Crown Lotus). Traditionally this chakra has often been referred to as the Thousand Petaled Lotus due to its complex and intricate vortices that unfold, much like a lotus. These vortices are subtle energy channels that connect us to the transpersonal realms of consciousness (meaning those levels of our being that are beyond our personal identity and physical embodiment). These channels connect to worlds of consciousness that are beyond the confines of normally perceived time and space and can be a source of immense creativity, insight and renewal. The Crown Lotus is often used as a focus of meditation by yogis and yoginis to enter a unique state of body and mind known as Samadhi, which is characterized by states of high bliss and ecstasy. While you might indeed experience bliss and/or ecstasy during this Intensive, that is not why we will be undertaking this work. We will be entering into highly refined states of consciousness for the purpose of gleaning new insights and spiritual abilities from the higher realms of consciousness. Tom will be facilitating this work through his, nearly... (read more)

Wovenhand Jaye Jayle - Saint Vitus Bar
September 14, 2019 - Brooklyn,

The music of David Eugene Edwards' Wovenhand is utterly unique, dizzying those who encounter it, with turnings and lashings of shadow and light. In almost every documented encounter with the music of Wovenhand, what is described is an experience so visceral and so universally disorienting, that one has to take note. From the first measures of music, the taste of desert earth is on the lips; neck-hairs snap to attention as strange and unfamiliar sounds whisper just underneath the surge of guitar and the rumble of bass; clouds loom on the horizon promising either the balm of rain or the threat of judgment — it could be either. The smell of horses' breath, like ash, carries with it messages from another place, a place that is at once very very far away and impossibly close... The music of Wovenhand is its own iconography, its own world, its own universe.

Oliver Baez Bendorf: Advantages of Being Evergreen - Books are Magic
September 14, 2019 - Cobble Hill

Equal part prayer and potion and survival guide, Oliver Baez Bendorf's remarkable Advantages of Being Evergreen is an essential book for our time and for all time. With rigorous compassion and great formal dexterity Bendorf imagines a new world for all of our animal selves in which we are truly seen and truly safe. At the same time these are poems that never shy from the shocking violence and cruelty of this world. I don't know when I've read a book that is so gentle and ferocious at the same time. Over and over again people come together to make their individual and communal body whole, knowing all the while that so much of the world seeks to wreck even the simplest kinds of safety. Baez Bendorf is making a future grammar for the moment all of our vessels are free and held. I am living for the world these poems anticipate. And I'm so happy to be held by them in the times that keep coming on this endless road to safety. This is a book of the earth's abiding wonder. And the body's unbreakable ability to bloom."

The Body With Assembly of Light Choir - The Bell House
September 15, 2019 - Brooklyn

Ages 18+ On No One Deserves Happiness, The Body's Chip King and Lee Buford set out to make "the grossest pop album of all time." The album themes of despair and isolation are delivered by the unlikely pairing of the Body's signature heaviness and 80s dance tracks. The Body can emote pain like no other band, and their ability to move between the often strict confines of the metal world and the electronic music sphere is on full display throughout No One Deserves Happiness, an album that eludes categorization. More than any of their genre-defying peers, The Body does it without softening their disparate influences towards a middle ground, but instead through a beautiful combining of extremes. No One Deserves Happiness is an album that defies definition and expectations, standing utterly alone. Buford and King are outliers at their core, observing the world as if apart from it. They strive for music without a category. They embody many contrasts. They are open and playful as well as thoughtful and disciplined. Live, they deliver punishing volume and scale with their spare duo set up, expanding their sound through a complex set of effects on both guitar and drums. For records, they a... (read more)

An Afternoon with Non-Duality Lecturer & Author Naho Owada - CRS (Center for Remembering No Sharing)
September 15, 2019 - New York

CRS welcomes back Paris and Japan-based Non-Duality lecturer Naho Owada, author of the newly published book Between the Lines, for a meditation, talk and Q&A. The event will be emceed by CRS co-founder and A Course in Miracles teacher/healer Christopher Pelham. Our purpose is to share the joy that is present when we drop our stories and experience life impersonally as it truly is, as limitless unconditional love. As long as thoughts continue returning, pulling us back into our stories, we will attempt to re-purpose them to point back to what lies beyond the words and concepts. In this way, Naho will share the story of her seeming experience of struggling and awakening and how she lives with it now, and she will answer your questions. We'll also explore how Naho's approach to Non-Duality compares with A Course in Miracles and what they might have to offer one another. Tickets are $30 in advance and $40 on the event of the event ($20 for students and seniors with valid ID at the door).

The Rethinking Animals Summit 2019 - SVA Theatre
Through September 15, 2019 - New York

The Rethinking Animals Summit brings together thought leaders from around the world around our unsustainable treatment of other species and the consequences to ourselves and the planet. The nature of our relationship with other species has enormous and quantifiable impacts on our health, on the environment, global security, our economies, and the viability of the world that our children will inherit. Furthermore, the nature of our relationships to other species and their environments have qualitative moral, ethical and psychological implications for us as civil society and as individuals. We cannot afford to ignore the need to change our perceptions of the importance of other species in our lives, nor the need to reconsider the nature of our dominion over theirs. The care, protection, and conservation of animals world-wide touches all 17 of the Sustainable Development Goals, and if the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is to be successful, it is imperative that other species be considered in its implementation.

Each nature walk is unique and offers a one-of-a-kind treasure hunt-like experience. Park Naturalists will meet participants at the Christopher Street Fountain, just north of Pier 40 at 9 a.m. sharp. Please wear comfortable shoes and dress appropriately for the weather. Loud noises and barking tend to startle wildlife and reduce viewing opportunities - please be considerate and leave your dog at home.
