Pigeonholed Presents “Not Clown,” an Allegory for Free Speech - Robert Moss Theater at 440 Studios
Through January 28, 2018 - New York

Pigeonholed, a NYC-based theater company, presents “Not Clown” by Steve Moore and Carlos Treviño of Austin-based Physical Plant Theater, January 24-28, 2018 at the Robert Moss Theater at 440 Lafayette Street, NYC. In 2006, the play enjoyed an extended run at NYC’s famed Soho Rep. This production marks the NYC revival of this stunningly original, eerily topical and allegorical play. A synopsis states: In a time when clowns are tortured and circuses banned, a renegade troupe enacts the story of a girl who longs for their outlawed life — even as her father commits atrocities on the State’s behalf. Limbs rebel against the body. The cram car bolts for the border. And a round, red nose is a dark souvenir. “Not Clown” is directed by Daniel Adams (2nd Year MFA candidate at Columbia under Anne Bogart) and features Justin Fuller*, Alice Rothman-Hicks*, Adam Foldes, Alana Fu, Tomas Virgadula, Jameson Lisak, Paul Lombardo, Justin Cimino, and Sasha Lazare. (*denotes member of Actors’ Equity Association) Stage Manager is Rachel April. Set and Properties Design by Sarice Olson. Lighting Design by Cheyenne Sykes. Costume and Makeup Design by E.L. Hohn. Shows are at 8pm Wednesday-Saturday ... (read more)

Apap: Barbès & Electric Cowbell Present Secret Planet - DROM
January 05, 2019 - New York

For the 9th year, Barbès Records and Electric Cowbell Records present a Manhattan showcase timed to coincide with the APAP conference. APAP is an annual rite that, every January, brings musicians from around the world to New York. This year's Secret Planet's lineup continues our tradition of showcasing new talent unlikely to remain secret for very long. This year's edition includes artists playing their own version of music from South Africa, Niger, Turkey, Lebanon, Cuba, Greece, Peru - and New York. Because it seems more and more apparent that New York really is its own country. And don't be dazzled by the geographical diversity - if one thing these musicians have in common is being from various part of the planet, the other thing they have in common is a creative impulse never impeded by stylistic or geographical boundaries. Music of the world is not always world music.

Carolyn Miller - The Bowery Electric
January 05, 2019 - New York

This Event Is 21 And Over New York's own emerging artist Carolyn Miller has been preparing her whole life for her next role - that of a country music singer. Having been on stage performing professionally since the age of eight, she's excited to not only make her unique mark on country music, but to finally be playing herself. A graduate of the Boston Conservatory at Berklee College of Music, Miller is a veteran member of SAG/AFTRA/AEA and has celebrated an impressive career over the years in not only film and TV, but also on stage and through voiceovers and commercials. Hungry for more and inspired by friends who were using YouTube as a creative outlet, she set out to make a few of her own. With her first three videos, Miller received nearly 650,000 hits. It garnered her thousands of new fans worldwide who surprisingly started pushing to hear original music. "The outpouring of positive feedback encouraged me so much that I wanted to explore this other side of myself that I never even knew existed," Miller explains. When it came time to deciding what type of music she wanted to work on, it was a no-brainer. It was without hesitation country music. Despite being from Long Islan... (read more)

Tigers And Thieves Powerlines A Day Without Love Della Chase - The Bowery Electric
January 05, 2019 - New York

This Event Is 21 And Over Powerlines is an expressive pop/rock band from New Jersey that enjoys the electric parts of life. Playing music together is one of those things. A Day Without Love has existed in many forms. Started as a solo act by frontman Brian Walker during his college years, the music took on the shape of a full-band when Walker collaborated with Philadelphia producer Jake Detwiler in 2013. The resulting debut EP, "Island", was a sharp contrast from the mellow acoustic musings that Walker had leaned on in the past - it was aggressive, grungy, and energetic. Since then, A Day Without Love has seen a rotating cast of musicians surround the singer/songwriter for a handful of short releases ("Confessions of the Innocent Mind" (2014) "A Day Without Oscar" split EP(2014) , Songs for the Lonely(2015) , Young Professionals(2015). In 2015 and 2016 A Day Without Love has played SXSW, signed to Sounds and Tones Records releasing a rerelease of Island (2013) via cassette and has been consistently touring the northeast area of the us and parts of the south. The band has done a crowd-funded fundraiser for Erika's Lighthouse, has spoken about the importance of mental health awar... (read more)

The film strips move horizontally and vertically; two strips move simultaneously in opposite directions; variations in color; action of sprocket-holes. Very methodically and scientifically he covers the area. […] COLOR SOUND FRAMES advances one area of cinema or one area of researches in cinema (call it art if you wish) to a new climax, to a new peak: his exploration is so total, so perfect." –Jonas Mekas, VILLAGE VOICE Total running time: ca. 70 min.

Josh Gachette & His Pioneers (Record Release Show) - Mercury Lounge
January 06, 2019 - New York

Age Limit: 21 and Over It's high octane, country music for the urban frontier! The brainchild of Joshua "The Cut" Gachette bids NYC farewell, with Nashville twang and Caribbean dub. The Cut spent his whole life in Queens, NY and "Pioneers" tells his story. He's enlisted His Pioneers: The Hessian, The Beam and The Class, to eulogize Old Queens. Sixty years ago a realtor called Queens "country living in the city." He couldn't nowadays. New developments in Astoria and Long Island City are pulling Queens in. Manhattan has grown out into the frontier, and the frontier is pushing into the hinterlands. We have more places to run away from and fewer places to run away to. The government has found all the "empty" land, and invited companies to "improve" that land. The first settlers pushed the last "natives" off the land, and now new settlers are pushing out the old. It's a case of lather, rinse, repeat…

Ensiferum - Irving Plaza
January 06, 2019 - New York

You can't talk about the true greats of folk metal without reverent mention of Ensiferum, and with Two Paths they once more affirm their place in the pantheons of the genre. Further building upon the thrilling metallic hybrid honed across six full-lengths, Two Paths is simultaneously the Finnish quintet's most epic and far-reaching collection and their most organic, which definitely sets it apart from the pack. "When we made One Man Army (2015) we wanted it to sound more like a live album than a traditional studio album. With Two Paths we took that to the next level with analog recording, cutting down tracks and even recording songs without a click, and because of that there is a totally different kind of groove compared to most modern metal albums," states bassist/vocalist Sami Hinkka. While their ideas are huge and they consistently prove they have the talent to back them up, the band maintain the grounded MO that has served them so well over the years, with the results speaking for themselves. "It all comes down to writing music that sounds good to us and is fun to play live, and I would say with Two Paths we've done everything better than we ever have before." As is typicall... SUMMER OF LOVE RUNAWAYS BOOK RELEASE SCREENING! Written by Miloš Forman, John Guare, Jean-Claude Carrière, and John Klein. With Buck Henry, Lynn Carlin, Linnea Heacock, Georgia Engel, Tony Harvey, Audra Lindley, Paul Benedict, and Vincent Schiavelli. The Summer of Love was not all daisies. Each week hundreds of distraught parents from across the country filed missing persons reports. Teens were dropping out of society and running away in record numbers to San Francisco's Haight Ashbury and New York's East Village. Enter Miloš Forman, fresh from Czechoslovakia. TAKING OFF, his first film in America, is a strange and wonderful comedy about a 15-year-old girl who doesn't come home one day. Her father, played by the great Buck Henry, goes to the East Village to search for her and – one thing leading to another – finds himself confronting such 1960s countercultural spectacles as a room full of uptight parents learning to smoke marijuana, a suburban game of strip poker, a cameo by a young folk-singing Kathy Bates (credited as Bobo Bates), appearances by Carly Simon and Ike & Tina Turner, and many more surprises.

January 06, 2019 - New York

Preserved by Anthology Film Archives with support from the National Film Preservation Foundation and Cineric, Inc. A masterpiece of collage animation that, after all these years, continues to boggle the mind. "NO. 12 can be seen as one moment – certainly the most elaborately crafted moment – of the single alchemical film which is Harry Smith's life work. In its seriousness, its austerity, it is one of the strangest and most fascinating landmarks in the history of cinema. Its elaborately constructed soundtrack in which the sounds of various figures are systematically displaced onto other images reflects Smith's abiding concern with auditory effects." –P. Adams Sitney

Her debut single "Blackout" premiered in May and received international support on radio and editorial support on Spotify. Her second single "Maps," a spine-tingling cover of the classic Yeah Yeah Yeahs hit, further opened the doors for Freya as it received major support from Spotify and Zane Lowe, who added her to his #Breaking List. Upon releasing a live album in September, Freya embarked on her first full headline tour in the UK. She then spent the rest of 2017 on the road supporting acts such as Dotan, Tears for Fears, Tash Sultana, and Lewis Capaldi. 2018 will be bright for the up-and-coming singer-songwriter, as Freya has set herself up to be an artist to watch in the new year.

Third Eye Blind - The Bowery Ballroom
January 17, 2019 - New York

Since 1997, San Francisco's Third Eye Blind have recorded four best-selling albums and assembled one career retrospective. 3EB recently released "the 20th Anniversary edition of their 7 million selling self-titled debut. " Led by Stephan Jenkins, 3EB won wide success during a tumultuous group of years when the major-label recording industry was finally losing its grip on an enterprise that for decades it had dominated with steely efficiency. Nothing could have made 3EB happier! 3EB, however, have experienced no comparable loss. Instead, they have gained artistic clarification -- and, surprisingly, a fan base who is larger, younger and more dedicated than ever. Participation in the older, untouchable realm of nervous star-making could color a band's identity.

Kicking off their musical journey in their senior year of high school (after being best friends since seventh grade), the boys honed their skills through remixing, taking on the likes of Lana Del Rey, Alesso, and Tori Kelly to name but a few. Two Friends were quick to prove their versatile songwriting and production, drawing upon a wide variety of live instrumentation to create a truly multi-faceted sound with every release. They swiftly exceeded their influence beyond the online sphere, attracting the spotlight on stage and radio. With support now coming from the likes of Tiesto, The Chainsmokers, Martin Garrix, and many more, and with a whole host of original releases locked in for 2018, Matt and Eli undoubtedly look set to dominate... He was then raised on the south side of Chicago, Illinois. Jenkins is a member of Free Nation, a hip-hop group that promotes creative thought without accepting narrow views imposed by the powers that be. In the spring of 2013 Mick released a mixtape entitled "Trees and Truths" that quickly became a local favorite, buoyed by acid jazz-influenced production, biblical allegory and lacerating lyricism. The project was by far his most lyrical body of work and caught the attention of Chicago's incipient gatekeepers. On August 12, 2014, Jenkins released "The Water[s]", a project spearheaded by the release of "Martyrs", a record that juxtaposes harsh truths about society with thought-provoking single with various underlying messages and subtle notions. Centered around the idea of comparing water to life's truths, "The Water[s]" has garnered national attention and serves as Jenkins' breakout project while receiving critical acclaim. Mick is currently fresh off the release of his debut studio debut album "THC (The Healing Component... (read more)
