NYC’s Best Sangria
June 19, 2017 - by Chelsey GrassoAh, sangria. The grown-up version of the fruity and refreshing punch you couldn’t get enough of as a kid. Of Spanish origin, sangria comes in many different colors and flavors depending on who’s making it. From red wine to flavored rum, if you can dream it, you can find it somewhere in New York City. Not to mention, it’s jam-packed with fresh fruit. You’ll basically be fulfilling your vitamin C requirement for the day with every glass you drink, and if not, at least it tastes great! Keep a look out for these five New York establishments for all of your fruit and sangria needs.
Best of NYC Sangria: Tio Pepe (West Village)
Tio Pepe prides itself on its authentic Spanish cuisine, so you’re guaranteed a good meal with your sangria here. They offer a selection of sangria flavors on rotation, including peach, orange, strawberry, and hibiscus. If you have enough people with you, or if you’re feeling especially ambitious, ordering a large pitcher for a great value is highly recommended. You’ll be in heaven as the sangria keeps flowing. 168 W. 4th St., 212-242-6480, tiopepenyc.com
Best of NYC Sangria: Alta (Greenwich Village)
For those interested in a sangria with an extra bite, Alta is the place to go. The sangria here is made with a secret ingredient that makes it stronger than the average. It’s served by the glass, but they’re big enough (and potent enough!) that you won’t feel short-changed. They offer both red and white sangria, and both are delicious. The atmosphere is so quaint and romantic, you won’t ever want to leave. 64 W. 10th St., 212-505-7777, altarestaurant.com
Best of NYC Sangria: Poco (East Village)
Poco offers an extensive menu of food and drink, and the sangria is not something to miss. You can grab red or white sangria for a light and not too sweet addition to your brunch, lunch, or dinner. This establishment can get packed since it’s such a tasty value, so ensure you won’t have to wait long by making a reservation—and don’t forget to keep a look out for the special offers and coupons Poco offers (great values like three tapas and a pitcher of sangria for $45). 33 Ave. B, 212-228-4461, poconyc.com
Best of NYC Sangria: Calle Ocho (Upper West Side)
Can you say bottomless sangria brunch? Calle Ocho offers complimentary glasses of sangria for as long as it takes you to finish your meal. The flavors range from whites in the form of Havana Banana (coconut and banana) and Tropical (orange, mango, and pineapple) to reds like Samba (acai and blueberry) and Spanish Harlem (cinnamon, peach, and mandarin). The glasses are topped with tons of fruit, and you’ll find yourself coming back to try all of the flavors. 45 W. 81st St., 212-873-5025, calleochonyc.com
Best of NYC Sangria: Las Ramblas (West Village)
Looking for tasty tapas and sangria so good that you’ll have to stop yourself from ordering another pitcher? Las Ramblas is the place to go. The sparkling strawberry sangria here is a must-try, and they also serve red pear and white peach sangria—each topped with succulent fruit.
