Wondering the best places to celebrate the Kentucky Derby in New York City? Lots of Manhattan bars, restaurants, and hotels will be hosting parties, drink and food specials, and other fun festivities. This year you can also add in some Cinco de Mayo celebrating (a day that commemorates the Mexican army’s unlikely victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla), as the Kentucky Derby goes off on Saturday, May 5th.

Woodford Reserve Promotion 

Woodford Reserve Mint Julep

Woodford Reserve is hosting a special promotion. Through Derby Day, for every Manhattan bar that features a Woodford Reserve mint julep, Woodford Reserve will donate $1 to the James Beard Foundation. Its mission is to celebrate, nurture, and honor chefs. In addition to some of the bars below, the lineup of venues includes Bill’s Townhouse, The Copper StillDistilled, Dutch Fred’s, Juniper Bar, The Lost Lady, The Marmara Park Avenue, PetalumaRed Rooster, Royalton Hotel, Sanfords, and Sons of Essex. 

Goodnight Sonny

Goodnight Sonny teamed up with Woodford Reserve and the James Beard Foundation for the “Juleps for JBF” scholarship program. Through Sunday, May 7th Woodfood Reserve mint juleps are being offered during brunch hours. 134 First Ave., 646-692-3254,

Leave Rochelle Out of It 



On May 5th, stylush Lower East Side bar Leave Rochelle Out of It will be hosting a celebratory fusion of the Kentucky Derby and Cinco de Mayo. Its Cinco de Derby Day invites revelers to join in the fun. The day’s festivities will include drink and shot specials, and the race will be displayed on the venue’s big screens. Specials include Miller High Life and Heaven Hill bourbon; Coronita and Casamigos Blanco; mint juleps; and Casamigos margaritas. The Roof

The Roof

On Saturday, May 5th, The Roof will be screening the Kentucky Derby at its party, which kicks off at 1 p.m. A talented DJ will play Southern jazz, and mint juleps and raspberry mint julepswill be served.  A series of drink and food specials will be offered—menu offerings include fried chicken and biscuit sliders, country ham devilled eggs, and fried pickles. The Vinyl

For Derby Day, Downtown’s The VNYL is offering its special drink—the julepirinha. This minty libation is a fusion of mint julep and caipirinha, but has a yummy chocolatey twist. This art-inspired East Village hangout draws inspiration from California and the fruits, garnishes, and flavors that add zest to its cocktails are prepared in-house daily from fresh produce. It’s always an interesting scene at The VNYL’s vintage hideaway. Its lifestyle-driven space welcomes guests to recline in its plush couches and enjoy its collection of retro photos of rock stars.
