Facial Recognition
Facial Recognition: Curated by Barbara Pollack
*Facial Recognition* brings together artists exploring portraiture in an era dominated by AI and facial recognition. Some, like LuYang and Lau Wai, use facial capture to question identity and existence, while others, like Azita Moradkhani and Russell Craig, resist surveillance through handmade works with political messages. Kambui Olujimi and Helina Metaferia infuse their portraits with history and emotion, highlighting facial recognition's biases. Pixy Liao playfully subverts gender roles in traditional portraits. This exhibition challenges the seamless adoption of AFR, offering alternative ways to critique and disrupt its power.
