Harlem Jazz Series — Dick Griffin
| Learn More |
Dick Griffin — trombonist, composer, professor, and living legend — brings his singular voice to the Harlem Jazz Series on June 19, 2025. Born in Mississippi in 1940, Griffin came of age opening for Sam Cooke in high school, studied with Charles Mingus, and became one of Rahsaan Roland Kirk's most trusted collaborators — making nine albums with the iconic multi-instrumentalist and serving as the notator who transcribed music for the sightless Kirk. He invented "circularphonics": a technique that combines circular breathing with multiphonics to produce sounds on a single trombone that defy belief. Tonight, one of jazz's most original voices comes to Harlem. Don't miss it.
