Poets House Presents Virtual Readings
Due to the coronavirus, please call to ensure this event is still happening before you leave home.
Poets House will present a reading by poet, performer, and cultural strategist Kay Ulanday Barrett from the new collection More Than Organ. The reading will be live-streamed on the Poets House Twitter page on Wednesday July 15th at 12:00 PM EST, and will also be available on the Poets House Facebook page, IGTV, and YouTube channel. K. has featured at The Lincoln Center, The U.N., Symphony Space, Princeton University, NY Poetry Festival, The Dodge Poetry Foundation, The Hemispheric Institute, & Brooklyn Museum. Contributions are found in Academy of American Poets, The New York Times, Buzzfeed, Asian American Literary Review, Them, F(r)iction, PBS News Hour, Race Forward, NYLON, The Huffington Post, and more.
And at 3:00 PM EST, poet and publisher Lee Ann Brown will read July 15 from Bernadette Mayer’s Memory. The reading will be available on the Poets House Instagram page, YouTube channel, and website. Lee Ann Brown is the author of 5 books of poetry and is the founder of Tender Buttons Press, which is dedicated to publishing experimental women’s poetry. She has taught at Brown University, Naropa University, Bard College, and The New School, St. John’s University, is now the Judith E. Wilson Poetry Fellow at Cambridge University. This upcoming reading is part of the Language is a Temptation series of daily readings throughout the month of July.
Throughout July, Poets House and Siglio Press will embark on a month long daily experiment: a passage from the corresponding day in 1971 will be read by poets, writers, critics, and artists, as a parallel durational work that celebrates the new publication of Bernadette Mayer’s Memory, which brings together the full sequence of images and text for the first time in book form.
Founded by two-time U.S. Poet Laureate Stanley Kunitz and legendary arts administrator Elizabeth Kray, Poets House serves as a home for all who read and write poetry. In 2009, Poets House moved into its permanent home at 10 River Terrace in Battery Park City on the banks of the Hudson River where, last year, 80,000 people walked through its doors, and more than five million were introduced to Poets House through its new website and national partnerships. 2017 marks the 30th Anniversary Celebration of this landmark institution.
