A Tasting Menu to Remember at STK Steakhouse in the Meatpacking

Perfectly cooked filet and atmosphere aplenty by the fireplace

Date Night? Business dinner over drinks? Whether it's a special occasion or an impulsive escape from cabin fever, STK Steakhouse has a wealth of reasons to lure you inside their spacious multi-tiered dining room in the Meatpacking District.

At the suggestion of our host, we sampled the venue's tasting menu, which included a seemingly endless series of plates both big and small.

We can heartily recommend the tuna tartare, which is offered up with taro chips and avocado as well as a tangy soy/honey emulsion. But the sliders, iceberg wedge with bleu cheese and calamari? Nothing short of terrific.

Entrees included a perfectly cooked filet (really only enough for a bite per person, but flavorful nonetheless), a mushroom and truffle tagliatelle that would be at home at any trattoria in Manhattan, and a sea bass that, while not for me, had my dining partner finishing every last morsel. Sides included a generously seasoned serving of truffle-parmesan fries, a sinfully savory mac 'n' cheese, and a generous portion of mashed Yukon potatoes.

The meal ended with an apple pie that we scarcely had room for.

Throughout the night, an attentive server explained the beverages before serving each round. The ones not to miss: STK's take on the Moscow Mule and a sublime Old Fashioned ideal for cold nights by a warm fireplace—which they happened to have mere feet away.

Ultimately, we were served more than two people should regularly down, but...what a great problem to have.

The Meatpacking District location of STK Steakhouse is located at 26 Little West 12th St., New York, NY 10014 (between 9th Ave. & Washington St.), 646-624-2444, STKsteakhouse.com

Reservations highly recommended, especially for weekend dinner service and those wishing to sit near the fireplace.
