Books Are Magic is proud to host the Brooklyn Writers Space Reading Series, celebrating emerging writers from Brooklyn and sharing their recent work. This month we welcome Mandy Berman (Perennials), Mesh Flinder ("The God of Rain and Thunder"), Luke Jerod Kummer, and Angelica Baker (Our Little Racket).

Mandy Berman was born and raised in Nyack, NY. She received an undergraduate degree from Franklin & Marshall College and an MFA in Writing from Columbia University. Her first novel, Perennials, was published by Random House in June 2017. She teaches writing at the College of Staten Island and lives in Brooklyn, where she is working on her second novel.

Mesh Flinder's screenplay, THE GOD OF RAIN AND THUNDER is being produced by Cary Woods (Scream, Swingers). In addition to writing screenplays, he also created and wrote LONELYGIRL15, which became one of the most popular series on YouTube between 2006 and 2009. Mesh received his BA in Film and Art History from Occidental College in 2003. He was raised in northern California, and now resides in Brooklyn. You can follow Mesh on Twitter at @meshflinders.

Luke Jerod Kummer is a writer and editor whose non-fiction has appeared in the New York Times, the Washington Post, New Republic, The Washingtonian and the Village Voice. He is currently working on The Blue Period, a novel based on events from Pablo Picasso's youth in Barcelona and Paris, to be published by Little A.

Angelica Baker was born and raised in Los Angeles. Her first novel, OUR LITTLE RACKET, was published by Ecco in June and was named one of the most anticipated books of the year by Entertainment Weekly, Elle, and Publishers Weekly, among other outlets. She now lives in Brooklyn.
