“Tchin, Tchin,” a French toast to the “French Chef.” The historic Grand Central Oyster Bar in New York City will pay homage to the iconic Julia Child on the anniversary of her 100th Birthday beginning Wednesday, August 15. The “Upside Down” Martini, believed to be Julia’s favorite cocktail (Gin and French Vermouth) and a quartet of French wine specials will be available by both the bottle and the glass to give its patrons a chance to cheer the culinary legend (available through Saturday, August 18).
Kevin Faerkin, the Oyster Bar’s general manager and wine & spirits expert, has selected these four French wine dandies from the restaurant’s vast wine list in tribute to the century milestone of the beloved Child: Bertrand Cremant de Limoux 2010, France, $36/$9.00, (White Sparkling); Morey St. Aubin 1er Cru - 2007 - Cote D'or, France, $40/$10.00 (White Chardonnay - Burgundy); Domaine Bellevue Gamay - 2008 - Touraine, Loire France, $38/$9.50 (Red Gamay – Loire); Raffault "Picasses" Chinon 1995 - Loire Valley, France, $68/$17.00 (Red Cab Franc - Loire).
The elegant “Upside Down” Martini, served in a cocktail glass or on the rocks, will be priced at $10. Sante!
